A patient who has been treated for periodontal infection should be followed on a long term basis to avoid recurrence. The plate control should be optimal: brushing twice a day for 2 minutes followed by the passage of interdental brushes. It is also essential to carry out regular control visits to eliminate, if necessary, dental plaques that may persist in sites that are difficult to access. The frequency of these periodontal maintenance visits will be 3, 4, 6 or 12 months depending on the severity of the periodontal disease and the effectiveness of the patient’s plaque control.
